Monthly Spotlight

Suicide Prevention Month

WHY IS CONSTRUCTION THE MOST AT-RISK INDUSTRY FOR SUICIDE DEATHS?

Male-dominated industries tend to have more suicides. The macho, tough guy, and stoic nature of construction workers can even discourage those who are most at risk for suicide from seeking help. Men, especially white men in their early 20's through their 50's, account for the bulk of suicides.

According to the Centers for Disease Prevention, construction occupations have the highest rate of suicide, as well as the highest number of suicides across all occupational groups. To combat these statistics, contractors, unions, associations, industry service providers and project owners must work together to STAND up for suicide prevention.
